Xoese Ghana, a non-governmental organization (NGO) with the core mandate of ending infertility stigma against women in particular, and couples in general, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a fertility health service provider, Clarity Specialist Scan.

The short signing ceremony took place at the Teshie-LEKMA branch of Clarity Specialist Scan on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

The MoU details that prices of various ultrasound scans, including Pelvic Scans, Transvaginal Scans, and others, will be offered at relatively low prices for the women who come through Xoese Ghana.

In an interview with Amaghanaonline.com, the Director of Xoese Ghana, Emelia Naa Ayeley Aryee, expressed joy at the partnership and said it is one of the many interventions her outfit has put in place to offer fertility health services to women at affordable prices.

She disclosed that this partnership became necessary following a revelation by the World Health Organization (WHO) that about 13 out of 100 women around the globe are infertile, with the main cause being polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) yet little to no information is available on the condition.

Unfortunately, not much is known about PCOS, the leading cause of infertility in women. Many of the women suffering from infertility now have it, but they do not know. With this partnership, any woman struggling to conceive or desiring to have their own children and need help will be assisted,” Ms Aryee said.

She explained that after the necessary ultrasound scans have been conducted, Dr. Samuel Gyedu Owusu of the LEKMA Hospital, who also doubles as the Board Chairman of Xoese Ghana, will provide medical consultation to the women and couples.

So far, we have a number of women coming in to be checked and medications prescribed for them where necessary. We will soon make the announcement across social media for women needing the service to take advantage,” the Xoese Ghana Director revealed.

She added that her outfit is in talks with major fertility facilities in Accra and Tema, where women will pay less for services such as In vitro fertilization (IVF).

Women who are yet to have their own children are being looked down on by society. The goal of these partnerships is to ensure that women and couples who want to have their own children are offered the help needed so that infertility stigma will be a thing of the past,” she emphasized.

The Board Chairman, Dr. Gyedu Owusu, who was at the signing ceremony, lauded Xoese Ghana’s initiative and said it will go a long way to help women seeking fertility care.

He also added his voice to the call to end infertility stigma describing the situation as barbaric and unfair to its victims, particularly women.

It can happen to your daughter, it can happen to your son, no one can tell, and that is why the stigma must stop,” he stressed.

A member of the Clarity Management team, Maame Tiwaa Asabere, affirmed their commitment to offer their discounted services to women and couples, which they believe is an honorable thing.

We believe that our diagnostic services will play a crucial role in providing valuable insights and support to the women seeking assistance through your programme,” she said.
