Government has directed the State Housing Company to assess the housing structures destroyed in the explosion at Apiatse in the Prestea-Huni Valley Municipality and make recommendations for their rebuilding as early as next week.

The Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said this while interacting with the disaster victims at Apeatse near Bogoso.

He was accompanied by the Ministers of the State, including, For the Interior, Ambrose Dery, Lands, and Natural Resources, Samuel Abu Jinapor, and Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.

Ghana’s Police Hierarchy led by the IGP, Dr. Akuffo Dampare was also present.

Vice President Bawumia presented relief items comprising clothes, bedding, rice, and GHC 200,000 cedis to the victims.

Dr Bawumia said the government sympathises with them and would do everything possible towards restoring them to normalcy.

He said agencies of the state and corporate entities have been activated to work on making life more comfortable for them.

The Vice President had earlier toured the site of the disaster to appreciate at first hand the level of destruction.

He also visited some the injured persons at the Aseda Hospital at Bogoso and wished them speedy.

”Government will bear the full medical costs of all the victims”, he noted

The Chief of Apiate, Nana Atta Kojo Brembi on behalf of the people commended the government for the swift response to understand and help address their challenge.
