Bogoso Disaster

The Minerals Commission has closed down the operations of MAXAM following January 18, 2022, explosion at Appiate in the Prestea-Huni Municipality of the Western Region.

This paves way for investigations to establish the cause of the incident.

The Minister of Lands and Natural Resources had in a statement suspended the licence of MAXAM Ghana Limited, a Mining Service Provider when explosives it was transporting to a mine site detonated at Appiatse in the Prestea-Huni Municipality leading to the loss of lives, injury, destruction of property and an entire Community.

To pave the way for investigations, the Company’s Licence has been suspended.

To give effect to this directive, the Minerals Commission based on LI 2182 and LI 2177 has closed down the Tarkwa Plant of the Company, ensuring that the workers are no longer on-site for their own safety as well as that of the larger society.

The Western Regional Manager of the Minerals Commission, Mr. Isaac Mwinbelle who led the exercise gave insight into the need to close down the Plant.
