The Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has threatened to cause the arrest of unserious members of parliament and walk them out.

According to the Speaker, the MPs appear not to understand the weight of work on their shoulders and also the mood of the nation.

Earlier, he had said the 1st Deputy Speaker, Joseph Osei Owusu erred in his ruling to reject a private Member’s Bill seeking to make enquiries into the Covid-19 expenditure made by the government since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.

He deemed the 1st Deputy Speaker’s decision to overturn his ruling as unconstitutional, illegal and offensive.

Apart from this pronouncement, it is unclear what caused the Mr Bagbin to get angrier as he told the lawmakers “what is happening in this parliament is completely unacceptable and I’m not sure you have appreciation of the temperature of the country, neither am I sure you know the nature of responsibility that has been placed on your shoulders…

“You’re all mature adults, what I’m talking about is still happening, the Marshall department get ready, I’ll be compelled to get the Marshall to get people arrested and sent out, parliament is not a place for joking, it’s a place for serious national business.”

Mr Bagbin reminded the legislators that “The parliament we are in have never been in Ghana, not even Gold Coast, this is a different type of parliament and we must be prepared to change to accept the decision of the people and work together…”

“you make me sick…” he added.
