JUBA, South Sudan, April 6, 2022/ — Event organizer Energy Capital & Power (www.EnergyCapitalPower.com) has announced the theme of its fifth edition of South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2022 – “The Gateway to East African Energy” – to be held in Juba on September 13-14.
As the country unlocks a new chapter in its history, South Sudan is repositioning itself as a gateway to regional energy development on the back of growing cooperation with its MENA and east African neighbors; SSOP 2022 will welcome Ministerial and investor delegations from Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Uganda, Ethiopia, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, South Africa and more.
Organized by Energy Capital & Power (ECP), in partnership with the Ministry of Petroleum, Ministry of Energy and Dams, and Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning, the fifth edition of South Sudan Oil & Power (SSOP) 2022 will highlight and explore the strategic role that South Sudan plays in preserving regional unity and expanding the pipeline of east African exports to global markets under the theme, “Gateway to East African Energy.”
Landlocked South Sudan is bordered to the north by Sudan, to the east by Ethiopia, to the south by Uganda and Kenya, and to the west by the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Central African Republic. As the only major oil producer in East Africa, its 3.5 billion barrels of proven oil reserves remain of strategic importance to a region in short supply of both energy and infrastructure.
However, domestic oil production has largely been viewed in isolation, with the vast majority exported via Sudan. As the country unlocks a new chapter in its history and with all three joint operating companies now producing after a prolonged shutdown of some facilities, South Sudan is repositioning itself as a gateway to East African energy development, specifically through the creation of regional, integrated supply chains and export-driven growth.
“South Sudanese energy plays an immediate and direct role in catalyzing broad-based growth throughout the sub-region. We are excited to announce the overarching theme of this year’s event, with a view to facilitating regional investments, promoting energy cooperation, and advancing cross-border energy and infrastructure development,” says James Chester, ECP Senior Director.
The two-day event will highlight capacity building, the energy transition, optimizing resources, finance, and infrastructure; and will target partnerships and investment opportunities across South Sudan’s oil, gas, power, and related industries, with a focus on technology, and capital and technical expertise.
The organizer and South Sudanese government actively encourage global companies and delegations to join. Among middle east and African regional players, SSOP 2022 will welcome ministerial and investor delegations from Kenya, Sudan, Egypt, Uganda, Ethiopia, Turkey, Israel, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, South Africa, and more.
