The action opens in the CAF Champions League on the evening of Friday 22 April, with Esperance de Tunis welcoming ES Setif.
The early morning of Saturday 23 April sees Raja Casablanca tackle Al Ahly in Morocco, while a clash early the same evening has Mamelodi Sundowns taking on Petro de Luanda at FNB Stadium in Soweto.
The Brazilians will be looking to overturn a 2-1 deficit from the first leg in the Angolan capital this past weekend, with co-coach Rulani Mokwena warning that they are determined to progress into the semifinals.
“At Sundowns we play every match to win, we were disappointed in the display in the first half, lacking aggression, lacking intensity, but we showed that we are much better than our first-half performance in the second half,” Mokwena explained. “And now it’s to recover the team, do the corrections and prepare for the second leg, but we will be in the semifinal.”
The early morning of Sunday 24 April wraps up the quarterfinals in the CAFCL, as CR Belouizdad visit Wydad Casablanca. The Moroccan hosts enjoy a 1-0 lead from the first leg in Algeria and coach Walid Regraui is confident of progression.
“We played a great game with 10 men to win in Algiers,” he explained. “Now we will have the chance to play in our stadium and in front of our fans. The semifinals are now secure for us, but we have a great foundation to build on.”
Sunday 24 April and the morning of Monday 25 April brings a quartet of games from the CAF Confederation Cup, starting off with TP Mazembe hosting Pyramids in Lubumbashi, and followed soon after by Orlando Pirates at home to Simba SC.
A clash late on Sunday night sees Libyan clubs Al Ahly Tripoli and Al Ittihad Tripoli cross swords, while early Monday morning has RS Berkane welcoming Al Masry. The latter Egyptian club are expecting a tough clash in Berkane: “We approach each game in a different way,” said technical director Karim Dikri. “We have turned the page on [the first leg], and we are now preparing for the next match against Berkane, which will be a difficult clash with a particular aspect.”
