The top clash from Serie A in this round sees AC Milan host Napoli at the iconic San Siro on the evening of Sunday 18 September. The Rossoneri and the Neapolitans are two of the most eye-catching teams in Italian football today, and this showdown should produce a thrilling encounter for SuperSport viewers to enjoy.
Milan manager Stefano Pioli says he is expecting a high-level clash against Napoli: “It doesn’t matter how you arrive at certain matches, but how you play on the day. We have prepared ourselves at our best,” he explained.
“I see a balanced match and the phases could make the difference. We must have our identity, carrying it forward during the match regardless of what happens; we are working on it: we have our ideas and our way of playing.”
The round opens on Friday night with Salernitana playing host to Lecce, while Saturday features a trio of games in which Bologna, Spezia and Torino are at home to Empoli, Sampdoria and Sassuolo respectively.
Sunday’s early game sees Internazionale with a potential banana skin away to Udinese, and manager Simone Inzaghi has warned his team against complacency: “All matches are complicated, we’ve analysed our opponents along with the guys over the past few days. We’ll try to have a match with intensity and aggression because that’s how you win matches.”
Other key clashes to watch on Sunday include Juventus away to newly-promoted Monza – with I Brianzoli surely looking to claim the scalp of the Bianconeri – as well as Roma hosting Atalanta at Stadio Olimpico, with Giallorossi manager Jose Mourinho hoping that Tammy Abraham is at his best.
“When I’m not happy with his game I say it, tonight I’m super happy,” said Mourinho of the English striker. “He won all the individual duels, he created a thousand problems for his opponents, even in terms of pressing and coverage.”
