Ghana’s all-time International top scorer, Asamoah Gyan is encouraging the Black Stars to be mentally tough for the uphill task that awaits them in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

“The World Cup is no joke. It’s the biggest stage,  we need to prepare physically and mentally before we can achieve what we want to achieve”, Gyan asserted.

On 29th March 2022, Ghana booked its ticket to this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar at the expense of Nigeria qualifying via the away goal rule.
Ghana will be making its 4th appearance at the Mundial after missing the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

According to him, even though Ghana are underdogs heading into the tournament, with the right mindset and teamwork, they can exceed the expectations of naysayers who did not even expect them to qualify.

Ghana is housed in a group with Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea.

Speaking on Soccer Chat on GHOne TV,  Africa’s topmost scorer at the World Cup and Ghana’s all-time International goalscorer, Asamoah Gyan says the players must prepare mentally to prove a point to naysayers who didn’t believe the team could even qualify wrong as he believes Ghana is an underdog heading into the World Cup.

“First of all, we need to prepare mentally to prove a point because during the Qualifiers, a lot of people did not have confidence in the team but they managed to qualify. They were able to deliver. They should take that same mentality to the World Cup”.

Gyan is of the view that the Black Stars can channel all the negativity surrounding the team into Morale boosters.

“Statistically, Ghana are underdogs going into the World Cup. This should rather boost their morale. They should arrive in Qatar with the aim of making a point. That’s how to prepare for a tournament,” he added.

Gyan prescribes ” Normal training, taking the negative aspects out and changing it into positive motivation and encouragement” as the only way Ghana can have a successful tournament even though it is the least-ranked side heading into World Cup.
