Doha (dpa) – German Football Federation (DFB) President Bernd Neuendorf said the early elimination from the World Cup in Qatar ‘hurts a lot’ and called for a meeting with DFB officials to analyse the situation.

“You can imagine that the course of the previous day is a bitter disappointment for us. The elimination from the tournament hurts a lot,” Neuendorf told a news conference at the Doha airport on Friday during the German delegation’s departure.

“Nevertheless, we have to look ahead and will therefore initiate an orderly procedure on how to deal with this situation,” he said.

Germany defeated Costa Rica 4-2, but both teams said goodbye to the World Cup as Japan and Spain qualified for the last 16 after Japan’s 2-1 win.

Neuendorf announced that a meeting with coach Hansi Flick, DFB director Oliver Bierhoff and DFB vice-president Hans-Joachim Watzke for the upcoming week.

He explained that the goal of this first meeting is to make an initial analysis of the tournament and also develop perspectives for the period after the World Cup, with a view to the Euro 2024, which takes place in Germany.

“From this basis, we will have other conversations,” the DFB president said.
