The National Film Authority (NFA) has held a capacity stakeholders meeting with focus on engaging filmmakers to foster growth and development in the film industry.

The event, which bought together filmmakers in Accra, was meant to enlighten participants on current trends in film production and distribution and adopt innovative ways to improve the film sector in Ghana to meet International standards.

The one-day workshop, sponsored by the World Bank and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture (MoTAC), the workshop was part of the NFA’s Cinema Development Agenda of previous engagements across the country, with workshops in Tamale and Kumasi.

Juliet Yaa Asantewa Asante, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Film Authority, indicated that NFA’s committed to creating an enabling environment for filmmakers.

She asserted that positioning Ghana as a content hub could yield substantial benefits for the country and the film industry.

Ms. Juliet Yaw Asantewa Asante emphasized that the NFA, since its establishment in December 2019, has embarked on several strategic projects to revive the sector, making it economically active.

The workshop seized the opportunity to discuss the draft of the Legislative Instrument (LI), which the NFA is working on to be presented to Parliament. The LI aims to provide a robust legal framework for the film industry, ensuring its proper regulation and growth.

Mr. Richard Yaw Boateng, the National President of the Film Directors Guild Ghana, called on the government to facilitate the development of the movie industry.

He is of the view that the drafted LI by the government when passed into law will sensitize the industry.
