The Pro-Vice – Chancellor (ASA) of the University of Ghana, Prof. Gordon A. Awandare on Thursday received the MTN FA Trophy from the President of the Ghana Football Association Mr. Kurt Okraku at a brief but impressive ceremony attended by student’s representatives and hall masters at the University Sports Stadium.

He expressed his joy to be associated with the biggest football competition involving 112 clubs drawn from division two, division one and premier clubs which is rewarded with the tallest and heaviest trophy backed by the leading telecom company.

He noted that the University of Ghana has made a lot of sacrifices to ensure that the nation acquires first class sports facilities during the 13th African Games, however it has been worthy and they will continue to support and maintain the prestigious facility.

Mr. Kurt Okraku was grateful to the Pro Vice, his staff and students for embracing and accepting to support the finals of the 2024 MTN FA Cup which comes of on Sunday, June 23, 2024, between two clubs from the Bono Region, Nsoatreman and Bofoakwa Tano comes off at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon, 6 PM. The GFA President labeled the match as the ‘Bono Derby’ and hoped for the best football atmosphere, thanking the University of Ghana for their partnership.

“The University boasts the best football facility in the country, making it a fitting location for this prestigious event. Moreover, with a large youth population within the University community, it is the ideal venue to create an amazing football atmosphere” he stated.

He expressed that MTN and the GFA are bringing football to the doorsteps of the students who are mostly youth at the best sports facility in the country.

“We believe the University should be a primary support front for this enterprise, bringing the youth closer to football.”

A representative of MTN assured that there would be souvenir giveaways and activations at vantage points of the hall to hype the game.

The winner will represent Ghana at the African Confederation Cup Competition.
