Dambai, July 30, 2024—The 2nd edition of the NCCE Oti Regional Debate Competition for Senior High schools came to a successful close yesterday, with Likpe Senior High School taking top honors.
The competition, held at Dambai, brought together eight schools in a battle of wits, promoting the values of peaceful dispute resolution and democratic values.
In his opening remarks, the Oti Regional Director of the National Commission for Civic Education emphasized the importance of settling disputes through superior arguments rather than resorting to violence.
He also cautioned the youth against allowing themselves to be exploited by politicians to engage in electoral violence during this year’s general elections.
The competition saw intense debates from all participating schools, with Krachi Senior High, Bueman Senior High, and Nkwanta Senior High securing second, third, and fourth places, respectively.
Other competing schools included Yabram Community Day Senior High, St. Theresa’s Vocational Technical School, Okajakrom Senior Technical, and Oti Senior High schools.
The event, sponsored by Guinness Ghana Breweries PLC, demonstrates the commitment of both the NCCE and Guinness Ghana to promoting peaceful coexistence, critical thinking, and responsible citizenship among Ghana’s youth.
By encouraging students to engage in constructive debates and discussions, the NCCE Oti Regional Debate Competition plays a vital role in shaping the minds of future leaders and promoting a culture of peace and tolerance in the region.
Congratulations to Likpe Senior High School on their well-deserved win!
