Ghana is on the brink of a transformative environmental breakthrough as BG Baidoo Global Ltd, the official African representative of Italian recycling powerhouse Eurven Srl, prepares to launch an innovative waste management initiative.
Scheduled for April 2025, the project, dubbed “Ghana Goes Green,” aims to introduce cutting-edge recycling technology to the country, setting a precedent for sustainability across the continent.
A Strategic Partnership for a Greener Future
In a significant move towards environmental sustainability, the executive team of BG Baidoo Global Ltd recently met with the Chief Director of Ghana’s Local Government Ministry in Accra.
This meeting laid the groundwork for deploying Eurven Srl’s state-of-the-art Eco Compactor/RVM machines across the country.
These advanced systems, already in use across Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, efficiently collect, compact, and incentivize recycling of PET bottles, cans, and packaging materials.
Hon. Chief Director Amin Abdul Rahaman expressed enthusiasm about the initiative, highlighting its alignment with Ghana’s vision for environmental responsibility and economic growth.
“This partnership represents a pivotal step toward addressing waste management challenges while fostering economic and environmental sustainability,” he stated.
Carlo Alberto Baesso, Executive Director, Eurven Srl
How Eurven’s Technology Works
Eurven Srl’s Eco Compactors revolutionize recycling by utilizing advanced compaction technology that reduces waste volume without crushing it, ensuring optimal storage and transportation.
The machines feature anti-jamming mechanisms and a rewarding system that incentivizes users with discounts, loyalty points, or cashback.
These recycling units have already transformed waste management in Italy, the UK, Spain, France, Poland, Chile, Brazil, Mexico, and the UAE, leading to increased recycling rates and reduced waste management costs.
Now, Ghana is set to become the first African nation to benefit from this cutting-edge technology.
Pioneering Change: Why Ghana?
Ghana’s selection as the launchpad for this initiative underscores the country’s commitment to environmental innovation. Rapid urbanization and population growth have heightened the need for efficient waste management solutions.
The ‘Ghana Goes Green’ project seeks to position Ghana as a leader in sustainability within Africa.
BG Baidoo Global Ltd President, Mr. Brian Bismark Baidoo, highlighted the transformative potential of this initiative, stating, “Ghana is ready to embrace green technology, and this project will not only enhance environmental responsibility but also create economic opportunities and jobs.”
Similarly, Eurven Srl President Mr. Carlo Alberto Baesso reaffirmed his commitment to collaborating with Ghana’s government and private sector to ensure the project’s success.
Project Implementation & Future Outlook
The pilot phase of the ‘Ghana Goes Green’ project will commence in April 2025, with the initial installation of Eurven’s recycling machines in high-traffic areas, including supermarkets, shopping centers, and public spaces.
A nationwide awareness campaign will educate citizens on the benefits of recycling and how to use the new system effectively.
As Ghana embarks on this groundbreaking journey, stakeholders from various sectors are encouraged to participate in shaping a cleaner, greener future.
This initiative is more than just a recycling project—it’s a movement toward sustainable development that could inspire other African nations to follow suit.
