The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures and traffic diversions in Accra for the Inter-Denominational and Inter-Faith State Funeral for the victims of the recent military helicopter crash.

The solemn occasion will take place at the Black Star Square on Friday, August 15, 2025.

To ensure public safety and smooth traffic management, the police have outlined the following measures:

Road Closures:

The roads designated to be closed at the vicinity of the event include:

  • The 28th February Road from CEPS Traffic Light Intersection to Castle Road Junction.
  • Osu Cemetery Traffic Light on the Lokko Street.
  • Castle Road from AU to Osu Cemetery Traffic Light.
  • Starlet 91 Road will be closed at the Ministries Traffic Light Intersection.

Traffic Diversions:

Motorists are advised to take note of the following diversions:

  • Traffic from La, Labone, and Osu on the 28th February Road towards the Accra Central Business District and the Ministries will be diverted onto the Salem Avenue Road at the Castle Traffic Light to link up with the Oxford Street.
  • Motorists from the Lokko Street, Osu towards the Castle Road should use Ajumaku Street and Oxford Street in Osu.
  • Traffic from the John Evans Atta Mills High Street towards Black Star Square shall be diverted onto the Liberia Road at the CEPS Traffic Intersection towards the National Theatre Traffic Light Intersection.
  • Traffic from AU Circle towards the Castle Road through Osu Cemetery Traffic Light shall be diverted onto the Abdul Diouf and King Hassan Roads to link with Abdul Nasser Road in front of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) area.

Approved Vehicle Parking Stickers:

Vehicles with approved windscreen affixed entry stickers that are RED with VVIP inscription will only be allowed to enter the Black Star Square arena and park.

Car Parks:

The following areas have been earmarked for car parking at the event:

  • VVIP, VIP – Black Star Square
  • The forecourt of the State House
  • The International Conference Centre
  • Access Bank car park
  • The Osu Cemetery car park
  • The Accra Sports Stadium car park
  • The Ministries Areas
  • Ministry of Food and Agriculture Car Park
  • Marine Drive Football Park
  • Afua Sutherland Car Park

Towing/Recovery of Vehicles:

No vehicle will be allowed to park at unauthorized places or drive through these road blockages. Security vehicles and vehicles carrying dignitaries will be allowed after thorough checks. Traffic Police Officers will be at hand to direct and assist motorists to the appropriate car parks and diverted roads. Towing/Recovery trucks would be available to tow off any abandoned/disabled/wrongly parked vehicles in and around event grounds.

Motorists are further advised to take note of these arrangements and plan alternative routes before embarking on their journey. The general public, especially motorists, are urged once again to cooperate with the Police and other security agencies to ensure effective traffic management and control during this solemn event.
