Omnia Vincit Labor — Perseverance Conquers All

It was an afternoon of laughter, nostalgia, and golden memories as members of the St. Augustine’s Past Students Union (APSU ‘80) gathered at the SSNIT Guest House in Accra on Saturday, November 1, 2025, to wrap up a year-long celebration marking 50 years since they entered St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast.

For these old boys (APSUnians), the journey began in September 1975 when they first walked through the gates of an institution defined by its vision of being “an outstanding catholic college offering the highest quality of education in preparing the perfect citizen for the future.” Five decades later, gathered under the same banner that once inspired them, they were living proof of that vision realised.

The get-together was the perfect finale to a milestone journey. The event followed a memorable weekend in Cape Coast last month, where the group presented 50 double galvanised beds and a CCTV security system to the school — a symbolic gift reflecting their collective gratitude and the enduring Augusco spirit that shaped them into leaders in every aspect of life, just as the school’s mission promised.

Saturday’s gathering buzzed with excitement and warm camaraderie as members of APSU ’79, ’81, and even a proud representative from the class of ’78 joined in the fun. The atmosphere was electric — old friendships rekindled, new memories made.

Shouts of “APSU… Action Nkotsee!!!” echoed through the hall, a rallying cry that transcended generations.

With a lively mix of local and continental dishes, assorted drinks, and soft background music, the celebration was more about togetherness than formalities. True to Augusco tradition, speeches were optional — but the laughter, storytelling, and gentle teasing flowed freely, reminding everyone that once an APSUnian, always an APSUnian.

A highlight of the evening was the circulation of a draft copy of the APSU ‘80 50th Anniversary Brochure, compiled by Peter Martey Agbeko, for members to review and offer feedback. The brochure’s first edition captures reflections and tributes, while the upcoming second part will feature stories, photos, and highlights from both the Cape Coast presentation and the SSNIT get-together.

The entire event was recorded for posterity, with an edited video and still photos to be shared among members in the coming days.

Fittingly, the celebration weekend concluded with the APSU 2025 Memorial Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church on Sunday, November 2, where old boys came together once more — this time in solemn prayer — to thank God for life, friendship, and the enduring brotherhood that binds all sons of St. Augustine’s College (Augusco). The service was a beautiful reminder of the excellent Catholic education that equipped them not just for professional success, but for lives of faith, service, and community.

Indeed, as the APSU ‘80 class celebrated five decades of shared memories, the school motto rang truer than ever: Omnia Vincit Labor — Perseverance Conquers All. Through the years, through challenges and triumphs, the spirit of St. Augustine’s College had indeed conquered, shaping young boys into distinguished men who continue to honour their alma mater.
