Author: Peter Martey Agbeko
The Kwabena Nketia Conference Hall at the University of Ghana burst into life on Saturday, November 22, as celebrated engineer, author, Church of Pentecost Elder, and APSU General Secretary Eric Atta-Sonno launched two powerful new books—Just Thinking Aloud! and Unpacking My Thoughts. The event blended culture, scholarship, faith, and national reflection in an inspiring celebration of ideas.
A major highlight of the afternoon was a highly successful Chinese auction, during which the APSU 1990 year group led fundraising efforts with a remarkable GHS 10,000 contribution. Their support, reinforced by dignitaries at the high table and invited guests, added a spirited sense of unity and purpose to the occasion.
A Call to Restore Values and Nationhood
Eric Atta-Sonno’s seventh publication, Just Thinking Aloud!, presents 77 articles under eight thematic areas. It explores:
• Developing ethics, values, and attitudes for nation-building
• Safeguarding human dignity
• Improving education, especially in STEM
• Living faithfully according to one’s professed beliefs
• Addressing moral decline and the neglect of vulnerable groups
• Celebrating Ghanaians whose contributions shape national progress
Given the country’s struggle with eroding values, the book is widely regarded as timely and essential for Ghana’s social renewal.
Governance and Politics Examined with Clarity
His second release for the day, Unpacking My Thoughts: Matters of Governance and Politics, offers 76 articles that delve into urgent national issues, including:
• Strengthening governance and curbing abuse of power
• Honouring national heroes and reaffirming identity
• Confronting the decline in societal values
• Empowering young people to shape Ghana’s future
• Critiquing policy implementation and the personalisation of governance
The book is already hailed as a must-read for anyone interested in Ghana’s democratic development.
Family, Faith and Community in Full Support
As an Elder of The Church of Pentecost (International Worship Centre–Atomic), Atta-Sonno’s service to faith and society stood out prominently during the launch.
His wife, sister, and brother were present to support him, reflecting a powerful family endorsement of his literary and leadership journey.
An Afternoon of Reflection and Inspiration
The event featured poetry recitals, thematic readings, and panel discussions, including a compelling cross-book dialogue on whether morality can stand independent of politics. Scholars, practitioners, clergy, and students engaged actively, demonstrating the wide relevance of Atta-Sonno’s work.
In his message of gratitude, Eric Atta-Sonno offered heartfelt appreciation:
“May the good Lord bless you mightily for honouring me with your presence and for your patronage of the books. God richly bless you all!”
The ceremony ended with music, lively conversations, and autograph sessions—befitting of a writer whose voice continues to champion ethical leadership, responsible citizenship, and national transformation.
