Fifty years after leaving the hallowed grounds of St. Augustine’s College, Cape Coast, members of the St. Augustine’s Past Students Union (APSU), Class of 1975, returned home last weekend to celebrate a golden milestone marked by remembrance, renewal and resolve.   Nineteen classmates converged at Fairhill Guest House in Cape Coast from near and far—Accra, Nsawam, Ejisu, Obuasi, Koforidua, Takoradi, Wusorkrom, Abura Dunkwa, Afienya and Tema—joined by proud diasporans from the United Kingdom and the United States. What followed was an epic reunion—emotional, exciting and deeply fulfilling—rekindling lifelong bonds forged during their formative years at Augusco.

From the warm Meet & Greet on Friday, through a full Saturday programme and an evening Dinner Dance, to an exhilarating Sunday Thanksgiving Mass, the celebrations unfolded as a rich tapestry of shared memories spanning five decades.   Laughter flowed freely as stories were exchanged, friendships renewed and the enduring Augustinian/APSU spirit reaffirmed.

A particularly poignant highlight was the engagement with the school’s leadership, staff and the current student body, notably Forms One and Three. The interaction proved memorable and rewarding, as the Class of ’75 shared lived experiences, lessons in character and the values that continue to define an Augustinian education.

The old boys also had the opportunity to observe and commend the outstanding work being done by the school’s leadership to uphold discipline, promote academic excellence and advance sanitation through a proactive green initiative agenda.

Guided tours—on foot and by bus—before and after the interaction allowed the class to revisit familiar landmarks, sparking nostalgia and pride in the school’s sustained growth and evolving legacy.

The Saturday morning programme culminated in a tangible act of giving: the joyful presentation of a legacy Risograph SF 635 printer to the school. Capable of producing up to 150 pages per minute, the machine will significantly enhance administrative efficiency and support teaching and learning. The handing over of the printer was accomplished with deep satisfaction and gratitude, symbolising the class’s enduring commitment to their alma mater.

The Dinner Dance, held in the School Assembly Hall, stood out as a masterstroke. The decision to host it on campus was deliberately aimed at deepening bonding with school officials, staff, students and the wider school community—making the celebration more human, inclusive and school-centred. The presence of staff and representative students, including the Regimental Band and the Prefect Guild, added colour and meaning to an evening filled with music, movement and merriment.

Amid the joy, there was also space for solemn reflection, as the names of 27 departed classmates were read aloud—an emotional moment that brought the gathering to a reflective crescendo.

Sunday’s Thanksgiving Mass provided the spiritual high point of the celebrations. Worship with the entire student population was marked by exuberant dancing and songs of jubilation, offered in praise and thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and for sustaining the living members of APSU ’75 over the past five decades.

All too soon, after a hearty lunch at Fairhill, the group departed Cape Coast around 2:15 p.m., hearts full and spirits lifted. The sense of gratitude and fulfilment experienced by those present was shared with many others who, though not physically present, contributed time, resources, ideas and invaluable feedback to make the celebration a resounding success.
