More than 500 residents of Sunyani and surrounding communities have benefited from a comprehensive free health screening exercise, one of the key activities marking the 2025 MTN Suncity Fest.

The initiative, organised to promote preventive healthcare and early detection of diseases, brought essential medical services directly to the doorsteps of people who may otherwise struggle to access routine healthcare.

A team of 30 qualified health professionals from the Sunyani Municipal Hospital and the Philano Lifeline Community Outreach conducted a wide range of medical checks, including blood pressure and blood sugar tests, Hepatitis B screening, BMI assessment, breast examinations, and eye, ear, and throat screening.

Participants also received general medical consultations, personalised health advice, and education on sustaining healthy lifestyles.

The Bono, Bono East and Ahafo Regional Manager of MTN, Kofi Owusu, noted that the health exercise underscores MTN’s commitment to supporting community well-being and reducing the prevalence of undiagnosed illnesses.

According to him, the outreach is part of MTN’s broader mission of giving back to its cherished customers and the society it proudly serves.

Many beneficiaries expressed profound gratitude, describing the programme as a timely intervention, particularly for low-income earners who often find routine medical checks financially difficult.

CEO of Suncity Radio, Mr. Ransford Antwi, urged the public to take advantage of such community initiatives and cultivate the habit of regular health examinations to prevent avoidable medical complications.

In a heartwarming moment, the Sunyanimanhene, Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boahen Kokor II, made a surprise appearance to commend MTN and Suncity Radio for their efforts.

He encouraged Ghanaians—especially the youth, whom he described as the nation’s workforce—to prioritise their health through frequent check-ups.

The health screening was preceded by a lively walk through the principal streets of Sunyani. Starting from the Sunyani Coronation Park, participants—drawn from various keep-fit clubs and social associations—marched enthusiastically through major routes including the Municipal Hospital traffic area and VRA before returning to the park.

The walk was characterised by brass band music, jama, dancing, and colourful displays, with many participants proudly clad in MTN-branded T-shirts and vibrant fitness wear.

Together, the walk and health screening formed a vibrant, community-spirited celebration of wellness, unity, and active living.

This year’s MTN Suncity Fest once again reinforced the power of collaboration and community engagement in driving health awareness and fostering a thriving, healthy population.
