Ghana’s fintech industry recorded a major international recognition as Shaibu Haruna, Chief Executive Officer of MobileMoney LTD, was named Fintech CEO of the Year at the prestigious Global Leadership Gathering Million Dollar Challenge Awards.

The award positions MobileMoney LTD at the centre of conversations around digital finance leadership in Africa and underscores Ghana’s growing influence within the global fintech ecosystem.

Organisers of the Global Leadership Gathering described the honour as a reflection of exceptional executive leadership demonstrated during a defining year for digital financial services across emerging markets.

Under Shaibu Haruna’s stewardship, MobileMoney LTD delivered what analysts have described as one of the most impactful transformation phases in Ghana’s fintech history during 2025.

The company successfully migrated millions of users onto enhanced digital financial platforms, expanding access to mobile payments, digital wallets, and credit solutions tailored to everyday consumers and small businesses.

Industry observers note that the scale and speed of adoption achieved by MobileMoney LTD have contributed significantly to deepening financial inclusion across both urban and rural communities.

Beyond growth metrics, a major highlight of the year was the company’s intensified focus on digital security and fraud prevention within the mobile money ecosystem.

Initiatives such as the MomoTrust campaign were rolled out to rebuild and strengthen public confidence in digital transactions amid rising concerns about fraud across the continent.

Complementing this effort was the nationwide public education drive dubbed “Shine Your Eye,” which encouraged customers to stay vigilant, adopt safe transaction practices, and report suspicious activities.

These interventions, according to sector analysts, have played a critical role in reducing fraud-related incidents while setting new standards for consumer protection in Ghana’s digital finance space.
