UBA Ghana, in collaboration with the Business Students Association of Ghana Technology Communication University (GCTU), commemorated the 2026 International Women’s Day with an engaging forum for students.

The event brought together students, academics, NGOs, and women’s advocates to exchange ideas under the global theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls.”

The forum celebrated the achievements of women while promoting gender equity.

Mrs. Rita Mills-Robertson, Head of Corporate Banking at UBA Ghana, was a guest speaker and delivered an inspiring presentation on “Overcoming Timidity, Building Resilience, and Thriving.”

According to Mrs. Mills-Robertson, “Overcoming timidity is the first step toward realizing your full potential. Many young women face that quiet inner voice of doubt, whispering, ‘Maybe I’m not good enough.’ But every one of you has unique gifts and ideas that the world needs.

When we choose courage over fear, even in small moments, confidence begins to grow and with it, the possibility to make a real impact.”

Touching on resilience, she noted that “Building resilience is the key to rising stronger after setbacks. Life will challenge you, disappoint you, and sometimes test your patience. But like a seed pushing through the soil, every difficulty is an opportunity to grow. Resilience transforms failure into lessons, teaching us to persevere, adapt, and continue moving forward, even when the path is uncertain.”

She further emphasized that “Thriving means more than surviving; it means embracing challenges to grow into the best version of yourself. A thriving woman is courageous, resilient, and committed to making a difference in her community. To all the young women here today: you are capable, powerful, and full of potential. Step boldly into your future, dare to try, and let your brilliance shine.”

She encouraged students to build confidence, set goals and continuously develop their skills to enhance their professional growth.

The session concluded with a call to action for stakeholders to support women by speaking up, offering mentorship, and creating inclusive spaces for growth and opportunity.

Attendees were reminded that overcoming timidity and building resilience are essential to thriving both professionally and personally.

The event reaffirmed the collective commitment to empowering women in Ghana and building a future where leadership is inclusive, transformative, and impactful.
