Chief Director, Ministry of Parliament Affairs, Dr. Evans Aggrey Dankoh has revealed that Ghana Civil Service is committed to using technology to improve the capacity of its staff to effectively and efficiently deliver quality services.

Speaking at the press launch of Ghana Civil Service Week, 2021 in Accra, dubbed Economic Transformation amid Covid-19  Pandemic: The Responsibilities of an Adaptive Service: he said, a huge number of impact was recorded in the area of digitisation aimed at quality service delivery and accountability.

Dr. Aggrey Dankoh revealed that, as part of its role in the implementation of the 2018-2023 National Public Sector Reform Strategy (NPSR), the Civil Service has improved its digitisation agenda to serve its clientele more effectively.

According to Dr Aggrey; E-Recruitment, Online Promotion Interviews, Service-wide Capacity Building Programs and Training for Staff, Smart Workshop systems, etc are among some achievements of the service in the area of digitisation.

Speaking on this year’s Civil service week and Awards Ceremony, he said the ceremony seeks to focus on the role the Civil Service has played in helping Ghana achieve economic transformation during this period of the pandemic.

Adding that the award ceremony will also reorganize the outstanding performance of some Officers of the Civil Service for their significant contributions, which resulted in the success stories of the service in the year 2020.

Dr. Aggrey who doubles as Chairman of Planning Committee further revealed that virtual training processes were deployed to build the capacity of Civil Service Staff where about 2,500 Civil Service staff participated in a number of E-Learning programs and workshops in 2020.

Reiterating that, virtual training programs have reduced the otherwise huge cost and significantly improved staff capacity in delivering their set targets.

“These milestones in the digitisation space have facilitated the implementation of the flexible working hours in the Civil Service to ensure effective adherence to the COVID-19 protocols instituted by the government.

Ministries and Departments were able to achieve most of their targets despite the challenges associated with the new working agreements. The remote working hours has ensured work continuity, re-enforced the need to the dynamic in our work processes and enhanced productivity on the Civil Service”.

However, indicating that, the resources to facilitate the flexible working hours has become a challenge especially for some Civil Service Departments, hence appealed to all stakeholders and especially sector Ministries to support their Department in this era.

Dr Aggrey, in concluding urged the media to give intensive coverage of the week celebration in order for it to get the mileage it deserves.
