Outgoing GJA President Affail Monney
Outgoing GJA President Affail Monney

I greet you all with the love of Christ. His grace has ushered us into another year for which we are supremely grateful.

Last year, a confluence of factors, including a legal suit, robbed us of the opportunity to elect a new President and other national and regional officers.

This, unfortunately, has occasioned the tenure elongation, spurious allegations, slanderous accusations, mutual suspicions, and brutal assassination of each other’s character.

Daniel 2:21 reminds us that it is God who changes times and seasons, He deposes kings and raises up others. Contextually, it is God who will raise the next President and other leaders of the GJA. And to Him alone must our prayers go, as we search for a President and others who will be worthy of the honour and fit for the service as national and regional officers of the GJA.

The slash and burn campaign style which runs counter to the godly approach will be destined for disappointment. This reality should be lodged in our memory as we outstretch our limits and root for our candidates.

Before we took officers, we were brothers and sisters, sons and daughters. While in office, we forged ahead with the singularity of purpose, did our best, and managed our differences, all by divine enablement. Posterity will pass its final verdict on our performance and legacy.

Then elections approached. The dynamics changed, loyalty shifted, hatred emerged, thus culminating in the present bouts of uncertainty about the way forward. Never should we allow ourselves to be imprisoned by our immediate ugly past.

The New Year presents a new opportunity, first of all, to forgive each other, love each other, respect each other, accommodate each other, and cooperate with each other.

This will allow the lingering issues to be resolved and a timetable produced for the elections to be held at the earliest time possible. A further delay will hurt our brand and inflate the cost of the campaign.

It bears repeating that it’s God alone who will raise our next President and other leaders worthy of the honour and fit for service. May He guide us to accomplish His will for the GJA.

Afehyia paooooooo.
