The Central Regional Chairman of the Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU), Alhaji R.S Artey, has been interdicted for financial malfeasance and exhibiting autocratic and dictatorship leadership skills.

According to reports, Alhaji R.S Artey, who has been the chairman of the GPRTU in the Central region for some years has allegedly been misusing monies from the office coffers without any proper documentation and advice.

In a letter dated 17th January 2022 addressed to the National Secretariat and signed by Ignatius Mensah, Reg. Vice-chairman, M.K Tetteh, 1st Trustee, and John Cofie, 2nd Trustee described Alhaji R.S Artey as a dictator and a corrupt leader.

“The regional chairman does not operate the office with the constitution. So we the elected officers normally advise him on this behavior. But as at now, he has not changed. He takes monies without our knowledge and we have been advising him on that but he has taken our names off the accounting systems,”

Alhaji R.S Artey has also been Interdicted for securing regional properties without proper consultation with his other executives and members

“He has taken charge of all properties in the region, He is controlling 4 regional cars (2No – 23 Sprinter seater bus and 2No – 32 Isuzu seater bus) of which all proceeds go to him personally,” the letter read.

“He has sold 2 benz buses (23 seater at GH¢28,000 and a 33- seater at GH¢40,000) to an unknown person. These monies have not come to the office but anytime we ask him he insults us,”

“He has brought 2 private cars to the secretariat and has come for GH¢18,330 from the office to license without the ideas of the elected officers,” the letter disclosed.

The chairman, Alhaji R.S Artey, who has been living a lovish lifestyle have been confronted by his executives on several occasions to desist from spending but has fallen on deaf ears.

The National management of the GPRTU, upon preliminary investigation has arrived to place Alhaji R.S Artey on two-thirds of his salary allowance until the final investigation is completed.

This was contained in a letter by the national general secretary, Mr. Godfred Abulbire in accordance with their constitution.

Article 23 of the Unions constitution sub-clause (d)

“An Officer charge with a criminal offence shall be interdicted on two thirds (2/3) salary or Allowance until he or she is exonerated”.

LETTER OF INTERDICTION

The National Management of the Union upon preliminary investigation conducted into the allegations of financial malfeasance, autocracy, and dictatorship on the Central Regional Chairman of the Union by your colleague Regional Officers; have arrived at a decision to interdict you for a thorough investigations to be conducted into the whole issue.

This is after the National Officers had interrogated you and had established (prima facie) (Preliminary information to support a case) against you in accordance with Article 23 of the Unions constitution sub clause (c).

You will be on two thirds of your salary allowance until the investigation is completed and decision is taken on the case in accordance with Article 23 of the Unions constitution sub clause (d) and I quote “An Officer charge with a criminal offence shall be interdicted on two thirds (2/3) salary or Allowance until he or she is exonerated unquote”.
