Russian Invasion

The first batch of Ghanaian students who were caught in the crossfire as Russia invades Ukraine has arrived at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration on Sunday indicated that over 220 Ghanaians living in Ukraine are expected to touch down in Ghana soon.

“I am pleased to inform you that, a good number, over 220 of our compatriots have exited Ukraine and should be with us in Ghana soon, and we are earnestly facilitating the safe return of a lot more.

“24 have arrived in Bucharest, Romania, and our officer on the ground is procuring tickets for them to leave tomorrow Monday en route to Accra,” the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional, Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey disclosed to the media on Sunday.

In the earlier hours of Tuesday 1st March, 2022 the first batch of the students touched down in the country. They were welcomed at the airport by officials from the Ministry of Affairs and Regional Integration.

Mrs. Ayorkor Botchwey had indicated that Ghanaians numbering 24 are already at the airport in Romania ready to board a Qatar Airways flight to Ghana.

The Minister, however, added that the government is committed to evacuating Ghanaians who are willing to come back to Ghana.
