The National Blood Service in collaboration with Giant Publicity Media as part of the Easter festivities has organized a blood donation drive at Kwahu-Mpraeso in the Kwahu South Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The exercise is to sensitize the public and educate them to voluntarily and regularly donate blood to fill the blood bank in order to save lives.

Head Blood Donor Officer of the Southern Zonal Blood Centre, SZBC, David Dodzi Ahiadzro noted that the exercise is to fill the blood bank to provide patients in hospitals across the country who need blood therapy for their survival.

“Hospitals across the country are in dire need of blood, when the blood is donated, it must be used within 35 days and that is why there is the need for constant donation of blood to the blood ban”, he explained.

Mr. Ahiadzro refuted claims by some Ghanaians that blood is sold at hospitals even when it has been donated to the blood bank for free explaining that such fees charged at the hospitals are processing fees.

The Event Manager of Giant Publicity Media and the organizer for the blood donation, Doris Dansowaa encouraged Ghanaians to frequently donate blood to fill the blood bank in order to assist patients who are in dire need of blood for survival especially, “pregnant women during labour”.

Some of the donors who shared their motivation said they want the National blood Service to save lives.
