……Twitter Circle being rolled out to some users

Twitter is rolling out its new feature, Twitter Circle to some users on iOS, Android and Twitter.com (5% of people globally) to enable them to choose who can see and engage with their posts on a Tweet-by Tweet basis.

According to a Tweet from @TwitterSafety, “Some Tweets are for everyone and others are just for people you picked”. We’re now testing Twitter Circle which lets you add up to 150 people who can see your Tweets when you want to share with a smaller crowd.”

Twitter Circle will allow people to have more intimate conversations and build closer connections with a smaller crowd that they select themselves.

The initial 5% of users selected to pilot this new feature can create their own Twitter Circle by following the feature which will be appearing on the app. Here is how Twitter Circle works:

  • Add your people: you can choose up to 150 of them to include in your Twitter Circle;
  • Tweet to only them: go on – share those thoughts. Only your Circle can see and reply to them;
  • Change things up anytime: want to edit your Twitter Circle? Go for it. People won’t be notified if you remove them.

In effect, Twitter Circle will empower people to use Twitter on their own terms by giving them the flexibility to choose who can see their Tweets. Overall, the expectation is that users will feel more comfortable Tweeting and expressing themselves without fear of harassment.

Twitter Circle’s Tweets will appear differently in the timeline, so other users will know they’re part of the selection. Users can only like a Tweet but not Retweet it.

This forms part of Twitter’s commitment to improving the service and doing more by giving control to the user over content viewing and their overall experience.
