Founder of 27 member dance group Hejole Dance, Edmund Kpakpo Adotey-Duamroh has decided to employ young energetic unemployed girls and boys in his dance group.
According to Edmund, the aim of the dance group is reduce employment by getting these young men and women who are interested in dancing, drumming and singing.
“Most of the people in the group are unemployed but we get a lot of gigs so we are sorted. We normally get invitations to perform as weddings, funerals, birthdays and because we are good at what we do friends recommend us to people who need our services”
“We also teach schools in Accra for their annual graduation ceremony and competitions and we normally get positive feedback” told Graphic Showbiz.
Edmund stated that although the 27 member group come from different places, they are very committed and always deliver.
“I am proud of the team I have because they never disappoint hence the reason we mostly get gigs but if any institution wants to help us out financially our doors are opened. It is my aim to have different groups in Accra and beyond using unemployed youth”
“The interesting thing about this group is that we do almost everything. We do acrobatics, sing, drum and we have more than 15 songs to our credit” he said.
Edmund Kpakpo appealed for support for other dance groups.
“Dance groups really need support from institutions and probably the government. We can do a lot if we get support,” he stated.
