Ghana Premier sides, Obuasi-based Ashantigold and Tema-based Inter Allies football have been demoted to the Division Two League after being found guilty of match manipulation in a Matchday 34 tie in 2020/21 Ghana Premier League against Inter Allies FC.
The decision takes effect from the 2022/23 league season, according to the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association.
The two met on Saturday, July 17, 2021, where Ashantigold SC eventually won the match 7-0 against Inter Allies FC.
After the match, there were several reports within the local and international football space that the match was fixed to fulfill a correct score of 5 goals to 1 in favor of the home team.
After a thorough investigation into the matter, the prosecution said its findings indicated that there is strong evidence that “Ashantigold Sporting Club as a legal entity engaged in a fixed match” adding, that there was a match-fixing before the start of the game.
Subsequently, club officials and players who participated in the above-mentioned match have also been sanctioned the 7-member Disciplinary Committee which sat on the matter.
