National Chairman hopeful of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and a former Information Minister, and an Ex-Legislator, Hon. Stephen Asamoah Boateng aka ASABEE has stated that the NPP is at a crossroads and would require a party chairman who would serve as a Field General on the grounds.
He said such a national chairman will always be in constant touch with the grassroots and meet their needs.
According to him, this is the only antidote and the only solution to ‘Breaking The 8’ if the NPP is seeking to retain power in the 2024 elections.
He has given the assurance that he is ready to serve the NPP in that capacity.
“What the party needs at this stage is a committed Chairman who will be on the grounds as the Field General and not armchair political leadership which does not win elections. I am a unifier and I am going to bring on board all within the party from far and near to enable us win the next national polls”, he said,” he said.
He was speaking at the official launch of his campaign in Accra on Wednesday 1st June 2022.
The NPP is preparing to elect its national executives after the party just ended its regional executive polls which form part of preparations ahead of the 2024 General Elections.
The national executive elections of the NPP is scheduled to come off July 14-16, 2022 and, it would be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.
Asabeee is facing a challenge for the position from Messrs Stephen Ntim, current treasurer of the party, Kwabena Abankwah-Yeboah, and former MP Prof. Christopher Ameyaw-Ekumfi among others.
Addressing the media and party loyalists, Hon. Asamoah Boateng said “My firm belief is that our shared philosophy can be actualized for our country, it can also be realized for the elephant family when the NPP’s government is fully supported by the vibrant party leadership which constantly reviews, assesses, and seeks to protect the positive aspiration of all our cherished members and across the country at large.
He continued, “therefore, I see three clear questions begging for answers; how will our party’s leadership restore the spirited discipline, patriotism, honesty sacrifice, and public service that our founding fathers established for our tradition and our nation?
He added “How do our party’s new leaders bridge the gap between the entire party and the bridge between the party and the government and ensure the fulfillment of our promise to our rank and file, our grassroots, and bring prosperity to the people of our country at the same time?
What kind of skill sets is needed in the party leadership to ensure unity, reorganization, and the release of the party energy to break the 8? These questions are germane as we think about the current performance of our party whiles in government and beyond 2024. We simply cannot ignore all these. These have been on my mind and I have pondered and searched and perhaps come to the strong belief that I am up and ready to serve you as the next Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).”
