Ghana’s duo Benjamin Azamati and Joseph Paul Amoah have failed to advance to the semi-final of the men’s 100m race in the ongoing World Athletics Championships, Oregon 2022.

Azamati who won gold in Paris and was Ghana’s only hope to make another record in the men’s 100m placed 4th in heat 6 after clocking a time of 10.81s.

Meanwhile, 2019 100m Champion Christian Coleman and Olympic Champion Andre De Grasse finished as the top two from this heat.

Also, Joseph Paul Amoah’s time of 10.22s in his heat wasn’t enough to secure him a spot in the semi-final.
This means that the dream of Ghana’s top two athletes of winning a medal for the country at the championships have once again hit the rock.

Ghana will now switch attention to the men’s 4x100m relay scheduled for Saturday, July 23, while Joseph Paul Amoah will also show his prowess in the men’s 200m on July 19.

In a remark after the race, Azamati lamented “it is quite disappointing because I had good feelings and high hopes coming into the competition to be able to qualify for the next stage, progress, and possibly win something for my country but unfortunately it didn’t go as planned.”

He added “So, I think I just have to learn from whatever happened today. I still have the Commonwealth Games coming up so I’m going to look back to whatever I did today and also correct my mistakes and move forward.”

On his part, Joseph Paul Amoah had this to say:

“After my 200-M at the Dominican Republic, I had an injury so it’s been about a month or barely 5 weeks. I was nursing this little injury and I wanted to use the 100-M to test it out to see how the 200 will go.

So thank God nothing crazy happened so the next thing is I’m going to try and get 200-M.”
