The Chief Executive Officer of Accra Lions FC, Nana Obiri Yeboah, has said Ghana Premier League clubs are yet to receive the final tranche of last season’s broadcast rights money from the sponsors.

Speaking on the financial difficulties clubs go through to play in the Ghana Premier League, he explained that traveling the length and breadth of the country is extremely difficult coupled with the financial constraints it brings especially when the few sponsorship money on board is still delayed.

“The broadcast right money from StarTimes is $30,000 and it comes in three tranches and as I am speaking to you now we are yet to receive the final tranche. So you can imagine the stress clubs go through in playing in the premier league,“ he stated.

The CEO Of Accra Lions FC further explained how they fund their activities to keep them afloat as a model club.

“We run the club from the sale of players, sponsorship moneys, and investments from our shareholders,” he added.

He however did not run away from the fact that they (clubs), the football association, and other stakeholders still have a lot to do to make the business of football profitable in Ghana.

“Ghana football is not an island so we should start making use of the best practices out there. We should take a second look at our fixture schedules so it does not clash with key games in Europe. Why can’t we provide the media with a match or press kits so they will have enough information to promote our product and players,” he quizzed.
