The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Wassa Amenfi East, Hon Frederick Kuranchie has called on his people to engage in responsible mining to save lives and lands in the area.

He made the call while showing journalists around a reclaimed 17 acre land at Dikoto, near Wassa Akropong, the Municipal capital.

This follows the launch of Operation Reclamation Exercise by the MCE to reclaim all destroyed lands in the Municipality as a result illegal mining popularly known as Galamsey.

Hon Kuranchie who is a Mining Engineering expert, decided upon his appointment in 2021, to use his expertise to help reclaim the lands.

He noted that “just as we have done here at Dikoto, same shall be done everywhere the land has been destroyed in this municipality.

But we call on all our people to join us in this reclamation Exercise and support us in anyway they can. Especially, no one should engage in illegal mining again so that this operation can be fruitful.” He said.

Hon. Kuranchie explained that the Community Mining Scheme which has been introduced by the Nana Akufo Addo-led government has come to stay and is more responsible hence encouraged the youth to join.

The MCE announced that he had lobbied for offices of Minerals Commission and Environmental Protection Agency to be opened in Wassa Akropong to enhance responsible mining and also boost the economic conditions of people living in the area.

The efforts of Hon. Kuranchie has been applauded by several people in the Municipality including Chiefs, political and youth activists.
