The Exit of 4,000 Nurses Is Detrimental to Ghana’s Health System, Akufo-Addo Must Act Now!—GFC

The Ghana First Coalition (GFC) after in-depth observation has established that, 4,000 Nurses left Ghana between January and July this year 2023 due to poor condition of service.

Health is wealth and for that matter, the existence of health workers is essential to lives. Unfortunately, Ghana’s story is entirely alarming because healthcare facilities are substandard and statistically not significant enough to accommodate workers and patients.

The data justifications of the General Secretary of the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) Dr. David Tenkorang-Twum, ascertained that about 10,209 nurses between January 01, and July 07, 2023, sought clearance with the GRNMA Secretariat to flee the country for greener pastures. And out of that 4,000 nurses were cleared and have already proceeded along, working overseas and enjoying better conditions.

Ghana First Coalition (GFC) sees it to be detrimental to the health sector in Ghana now and in the future. This is a dire circumstance and it is piloting to staff shortage with immense tension on the few remaining ones.

GFC is not happy about it, therefore, we dare H. E. The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, and his sector minister Hon. Agyeman Manu to be proactive and act to unravel the situation with immediate effect. Health care is non-negotiable.

However, many citizens in rural areas lack healthcare structures and so people do not have access to proper health care which is prejudiced. The president must exhibit leadership and address the inequality in his administration.
