Black Stars are gearing up to know their group opponents for the upcoming AFCON 2023 to be staged in Cote d’Ivoire in 2024. The draw pitches countries against each other in the group stage is announced to be held at the Parc des Expositions d’Abidjan in Abidjan on Thursday, October 12, 2023.

Ghana, housed in Pot 2 ahead of the draw is expected to gain a favourable group which will end their long-awaited trophy drought. The Black Stars will avoid Cameroon, Nigeria, Mali, Burkina Faso and DR Congo after they have been put together.

The 24-team tournament would have 6 groups of four teams in each group with the first two teams after the group stages advancing to the round 16 stage of the tournament.  

The Black Stars will be making their 24th appearance in the tournament hoping to win their first AFCON glory in 42 years.

The 34th edition of the biennial African Football Festival organized by the Confederation of African Football will witness some returnees of the competition including South Africa, Zambia, Angola Namibia, Mozambique, and pioneers DR Congo. Having first hosted in 1984, the 2024 edition will be the second time Ivory Coast will be hosting the tournament and is expected to also feature defending champions Senegal and the most successful nation in the competition Egypt.
