Mr. George Lamptey, an executive board member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has appealed to Ghanaians to pray for Team Ghana at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Speaking to Yours Truly on Omashi TV, the former President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF) who is now an International Technical Official with the International Boxing Association (IBA) said although boxing which brought Ghana and Africa glory and the only medal at the last Games in Tokyo, he believes the Track & Field athletes and swimmers can raise the flag of Ghana high.

He urged the sportsmen and women and their coaches not to feel intimidated when they meet the world champions, but have hope and compete as Ghanaians with a tough spirit.

According to him, the Black Bombers, the national boxing team who lost three opportunities for Paris 2024 in Senegal, Italy and Thailand did their best but their best was not enough.

He expressed that Ghana should have won more gold and silver medals at the 13th African Games.

“Sports, especially boxing is not easy, so my advise is that government should invest in Amateur Boxing” he noted.

Mr. George Lamptey counseled the current executives of the GBF to contact him as he has rich experience to share and he is available for consultation at every time.

He pleaded with boxing promoters to offer amateur boxers the chance to fight on platforms with huge crowds at night so that they can have that experience.

He also thanked his employers at Ghana Airports for offering him opportunity to take international courses in boxing to support the nation.

He commended the sports media who have been promoting boxing and urged them to keep it up.
