Bawumia Transforming Lives Through ZDF A Laudable Initiative That Must Continue Beyond 2024—NPP GERMANY

NPP GERMANY acknowledges and express our deepest gratitude to the Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his unwavering commitment to uplifting the lives of Ghanaians, particularly the youth from underserved communities.

Today, we celebrate one of the many social interventions led by the Vice President through the Zongo Development Fund—a timely and life-changing opportunity for young, brilliant minds who may not have had the chance to fulfill their dreams otherwise.

Specifically, we commend him for the scholarship initiative that has already benefited 40 bright but underprivileged students from Zongo communities, including a proud son of Ashaiman, Mohammed Muntari.

In 2020, these 40 students, who come from humble backgrounds, were selected to pursue medical training in Cuba—an opportunity that would not only change their personal lives but would also create a ripple effect of positive change in their communities.

Among them is Mohammed Muntari, a young man whose outstanding academic achievement in his WASSCE exam touched the hearts of many across Ghana.

His excellent performance, which went viral on social media, led to an outpouring of support from concerned Ghanaians, who wanted to see him thrive.

It was Vice President Dr. Bawumia, through his compassionate leadership and vision for inclusive development, who recognized Mohammed’s potential and took swift action to ensure that he, too, would be included in this extraordinary opportunity to study medicine in Cuba.

Today, Mohammed stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration for Ashaiman and Zongo communities nationwide.

His story exemplifies the far-reaching impact of leadership that is centered on providing equitable opportunities for all.

NPP GERMANY joins the elders and chiefs of the Ashaiman Zongo to sincerely thank Dr. Bawumia for his continued dedication to fostering opportunities for our youth.

We are immensely grateful for this scholarship initiative, and we believe this program will bring about transformative changes not only for the students but for the future of our communities as a whole.

We also take this moment to humbly request the extension of such initiatives, as many more talented youth from disadvantaged communities can benefit from these life-changing opportunities.

As we commend Dr. Bawumia for this remarkable intervention, we also call on all stakeholders, both public and private, to continue supporting such visionary initiatives that build a brighter future for our nation.

We crave the indulgence of followers, readers and the voting populace to once again highlight some of the massive transformations in Muslim Communities as a result of the introduction of the Zongo Development Fund.

Since its inception, the Zongo Development Fund (ZDF) has brought significant change to the lives of Muslim communities across Ghana.

Established in 2017, the ZDF was designed to address the socio-economic disparities that have historically plagued Zongo communities, areas predominantly inhabited by Muslims.

Over the years, the fund has invested in education, healthcare, sanitation, and infrastructure, reshaping the lives of millions.

A Vision for Progress

For decades, Zongo communities faced widespread neglect, often with limited access to basic social services. Many lacked sufficient educational facilities, healthcare centers, and proper infrastructure.

The Zongo Development Fund was introduced by the government to bridge this gap.

With a clear mandate to improve the quality of life in these communities, the fund has launched multiple initiatives focused on human capital development, economic empowerment, and community infrastructure.

Education: A Pathway to Empowerment

One of the most impactful areas of the ZDF’s work has been in education.

Many Zongo communities have traditionally been underserved, with inadequate schools and limited resources.

The fund has set out to change this by building schools, providing scholarships, and supporting vocational training programs.

For instance, in Accra’s Nima community, a new model school funded by the ZDF has become a symbol of hope.

Previously, children in the area had to walk long distances to access basic education.

Today, the Zongo Model School, equipped with modern learning facilities, accommodates hundreds of students and provides them with a quality education.

Healthcare: A Lifeline for Many

Healthcare access has also been a significant area of focus for the Zongo Development Fund. Many Zongo communities, particularly in rural areas, have long struggled with inadequate healthcare services.

To address this, the fund has constructed health centers and provided medical equipment to existing facilities, ensuring that residents can receive timely and quality care.

In Ashaiman, for example, the construction of a new community health center has brought relief to thousands. Residents previously had to travel several kilometers to seek medical attention, but today, the center provides essential services like maternity care, immunization, and emergency treatment right at their doorstep.

Infrastructure and Sanitation: Building for the Future

Beyond education and healthcare, the ZDF has made strides in improving the infrastructure within Zongo communities.

Poor road networks and inadequate sanitation facilities have long been a challenge. The fund has invested in constructing roads, drainage systems, and public toilets to improve living conditions.

Additionally, the ZDF’s commitment to addressing sanitation challenges has improved public health.

In many Zongo communities, the construction of modern toilet facilities has reduced the spread of diseases caused by poor sanitation, leading to a healthier and more productive population.

Economic Empowerment: Lifting People Out of Poverty

One of the key pillars of the ZDF is economic empowerment. Recognizing that many Zongo residents rely on informal businesses, the fund has launched programs aimed at boosting entrepreneurship and providing financial support for small businesses.

Through its skills training programs, the ZDF has helped hundreds of young men and women gain vocational skills, ranging from tailoring and carpentry to information technology.

The provision of microloans has also enabled small-scale traders to expand their businesses.

Take Amina Salifu, a seamstress in Tamale, for instance. After completing a vocational training program funded by the ZDF, she was able to set up her own shop.

“Before the training, I was struggling to make ends meet, but now I have my own business and even employ two people,” she says. “The ZDF has empowered me and many others in my community.”

The ZDF continues to expand its programs, with a focus on reaching more communities and deepening its impact.

As the Zongo Development Fund grows, its focus remains steadfast: to transform the socio-economic landscape of Zongo communities and create opportunities for future generations.

The fund’s efforts have not only improved living standards but also fostered a sense of hope and belonging in areas that were once marginalized.

With continued investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and economic empowerment, the Zongo Development Fund is proving that real, meaningful change is possible, one community at a time.

For the millions of residents in these communities, the future looks brighter than ever.

Thank you, Dr. Bawumia, for being a champion of progress and social equity. We are confident that your efforts today will have a lasting impact on generations to come.

Let us not gamble with the future of our healthcare system. On Election Day, let us cast our votes to secure a brighter and healthier future for our nation by re-electing the NPP.

Together, we are building a better and prosperous Ghana!

May God bless our nation, and may we continue to work together towards a brighter, more prosperous future.

We will continue to urge the good people of Ghana to vote NPP and break the 8 in order to retain the NPP so that the next NPP administration in the helm of governance will continue to give off its best.
