PNC General Secretary, Issahaque Awudulai

The People’s National Convention (PNC) has officially denied reports of declaring support for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Sissala East Constituency in the upcoming 2024 elections.

In a press release issued by the PNC’s General Secretary, Issahaque Awudulai, the party described the alleged declaration as illegal, baseless, and without authority.

According to the statement, the PNC’s leadership has been preoccupied with a legal battle against the Electoral Commission over the disqualification of its Presidential Candidate from the 2024 elections.

The party is focusing on ensuring justice in that case and has not authorized any form of political alignment with the NPP or any other party.

“It is preposterous, ill-fated, and untenable for anyone or group of persons within the party to unilaterally commit the PNC to support another party or its candidate without recourse to the leadership,” the statement emphasized, calling the act one of “indiscipline, dishonesty, and disloyalty.”

The PNC clarified that any decision to support another party or candidate requires approval from the National Executive Committee, as was the case during the 2008 election runoff between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the NPP.

The party condemned the actions of the Sissala East Constituency Chairman and Secretary, who were allegedly behind the unauthorized declaration.

It announced that these individuals would face the party’s Disciplinary Committee for their misconduct.

The PNC also urged its members and supporters in the Sissala East Constituency to disregard the declaration made on Saturday, 19th October, and remain loyal to the party as it prepares for the 2024 elections.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
THE MEDIA

21ST OCTOBER, 2024

DISREGARD PURPORTED REPORTS OF DECLARATION OF SUPPORT FOR THE SISSALA EAST NPP PARLIAMENTARY CANDIDATE

My office has officially received complaints of a purported declaration of support for the New Patriotic Party Parliamentary Candidate for the 2024 elections by the Sissala East Constituency Executives of the PNC.

The Party wishes to state that the so-called declaration is illegal baseless, null, void and of no effect from the standpoint of the party’s structure and organization.

It is public knowledge that the PNC led by its Presidential Candidate for the 2024 elections has been engaged in a legal battle with the Electoral Commission over his unjust and unfair disqualification from participating in the 2024 elections.

As such, the leadership of the party has been totally focused on this legal tussle hoping that justice would be served to pave the way for the party to be represented in the 7th December, 2024 Presidential Elections.

It is therefore preposterous, ill-fated and untenable for anyone or group of persons within the party to unilaterally and arbitrarily commit the party to supporting another party or its candidate without recourse to the leadership.

This smacks of indiscipline, dishonesty and disloyalty which must not be countenanced in a mass party like the PNC.

The Party wishes to state that on the matter of taking a decision to throw support or weight behind a different party or its candidate, the National Executive Committee of the party must meet and take that decision.

This was amply demonstrated in 2008 when there was a second round of elections to determine the winner of the elections between the NDC and the NPP.

For that matter, this gross disrespect and contravention of the party’s constitution is condemnable and the perpetrators, especially the Chairman and Secretary for the Sissala East Constituency shall be hauled before the Disciplinary Committee of the party to answer questions for their misconduct and attempt mislead the party following.

This disciplinary proceedings shall instill some sanctity and orderliness in the party as well as deter others.

The PNC implores its executives, supporters and sympathizers in the Sissala East Constituency to ignore and disregard the so-called declaration made on Saturday the 19th of October, 2024 and rather remain steadfast and hopeful as the party navigates its way to campaign and participate in the 2024 elections.

Signed………

Issahaque Awudulai

General Secretary
