On January 5, 2010, Ghana lost a remarkable patriot and visionary leader, Major Courage Emmanuel Kobla Quashigah (Rtd). Fifteen years later, we honor his memory and reflect on his profound contributions to our nation.

This tribute is deeply personal for me, as I fondly recall interactions with some of his relatives and colleagues.

Through them, I glimpsed the human side of a man whose life exemplified courage, dedication, and an unrelenting commitment to national service.

Born on September 9, 1947, Major Courage Quashigah embarked on a distinguished military career that spanned decades.

After graduating from the Ghana Military Academy in 1966, he honed his leadership skills at the prestigious Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in the UK.

Rising through the ranks of the Ghana Armed Forces, his discipline, intelligence, and resilience earned him widespread respect.

As an officer, Major Quashigah was a pillar of exemplary leadership, playing critical roles in national security operations and training younger officers. His dedication to patriotism and professionalism became hallmarks of his service.

As Chief of Operations during pivotal moments in Ghana’s history, his strategic vision and unwavering commitment left an indelible mark.

Awards And Medals

Major Quashigah distinguished himself as a leader of remarkable caliber. During his service with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), he earned a prestigious Commendation for Efficient and Effective Command, a testament to his exemplary leadership and operational acumen.

At Sandhurst, he displayed exceptional aptitude and discipline, earning unparalleled recognition.

His academic and professional pursuits were equally impressive, as he obtained a Diploma in Economics, War Studies, and Commonwealth Studies, equipping him with a robust foundation in military strategy and international relations.

He was awarded the Cane and Certificate of Honour as the Best Overseas Cadet and achieved the Highest in the Order of Merit, distinctions awarded to the most outstanding cadet among his peers.
