Ace broadcaster Paul Adom Otchere has urged the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to temporarily refrain from publicly criticizing the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for now.
He would rather the NPP focus on gathering and assessing key information to build a stronger and more strategic opposition.
He made this suggestion during the debut episode of the Good Evening Ghana podcast on Metro TV, where he shared his thoughts on the political landscape and the NPP’s approach to handling the current government.
Adom Otchere cautioned the NPP against reacting impulsively to “every little thing” done by the NDC-led government, emphasizing that it would be more beneficial for the party to take a step back and allow President Mahama’s administration time to settle into office.
According to him, it is essential to carefully monitor and assess the administration’s policies, decisions, and overall direction in the early stages of a new government.
By doing so, the NPP would be better positioned to provide informed, constructive criticism at the right time.
He stressed that attacking every minor or seemingly trivial government action could backfire, making the NPP appear overly desperate and reactionary.
This kind of constant criticism, he argued, risks undermining the party’s credibility and ability to present itself as a serious and effective alternative.
Instead, Mr Otchere recommended that the NPP wait until mid-year, “around May or June, before launching more substantial and well-researched critiques of the government’s performance”.
