Bunso, Eastern Region —Firefighters from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) successfully extinguished a fire that broke out in a cargo truck bound for Burkina Faso and Mali on Wednesday, preventing potential disaster.

The truck, registered as 11 KP 9818 BF, was transporting essential goods worth millions when it caught fire near Bunso.

Reports indicate that the vehicle had developed a mechanical fault on Tuesday and had been abandoned overnight near Paradise Exclusive Resort.

According to Mr. Daniel Benin, Public Relations Officer of Paradise Exclusive Resort, in a press release, the incident occurred far from the resort’s premises, contrary to misleading reports circulating online.

“The driver and his loaders left the vehicle overnight and returned the next day with a mechanic.

The fire started immediately after repairs were completed when the driver attempted to restart the engine,” he explained.

Fire Officer A.D.O.I. Collins Asiedu also confirmed that the situation was swiftly brought under control and emphasized that no casualties or property damage were recorded.

He urged the public to disregard false reports suggesting otherwise.

Authorities have assured the public that the incident posed no threat beyond the affected vehicle.

The GNFS continues to advise caution when dealing with mechanical faults to prevent similar incidents.
