Accra, July 28, 2025 — The family of legendary Ghanaian highlife musician, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has officially announced a candlelight vigil in his honour, scheduled to take place at the historic Black Star Square (Independence Square) on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 6:00 p.m.
In a statement issued by the family through their legal representative, Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., the Fosu family expressed profound gratitude to the nation and beyond for the overwhelming love, prayers, and support received following the passing of the music icon after a brief illness.
“In this time of deep grief, your kindness and solidarity have brought us great comfort,” the family shared, acknowledging the emotional outpouring that has united fans, friends, colleagues, and the entire creative arts fraternity.
Daddy Lumba, whose unique voice and iconic hits made him a household name for over four decades, leaves behind a towering legacy as one of Ghana’s most influential and celebrated musical talents.
As part of the arrangements to celebrate the life and legacy of Daddy Lumba, two key events have been announced:
1. Book of Condolence
• Venue: Private residence of the late Daddy Lumba,
Kinshasha Crescent, House No. 12 (GA-332-9264)
• Start Date: Tuesday, July 29, 2025
• Time: 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. daily
Fans, friends, and members of the general public are invited to pay their respects by signing the Book of Condolence at his residence.
2. Candlelight Vigil Night
• Venue: Black Star Square
(Independence Square), Accra
• Date: Saturday, August 2, 2025
• Time: 6:00 p.m.
This solemn event will be held under the auspices of the Creative Arts Agency and will feature musical tributes, spoken word performances, and reflections from notable personalities who were touched by Daddy Lumba’s extraordinary musical journey.
