The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has issued a travel advisory to Ghanaian nationals following escalating military hostilities in the Middle East involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.
In a press release dated February 28, 2026, the Ministry said it is closely monitoring developments in the region with “serious concern,” citing coordinated military strikes by the United States of America and the State of Israel against targets within the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The statement also referenced reported retaliatory actions by Iran against Israel and United States military assets across the region, particularly in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
According to the Ministry, the unfolding developments have resulted in airspace closures, flight disruptions, and heightened security alerts in parts of the Middle East.
The government urged all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint, de-escalate tensions and return to diplomatic engagement in the interest of protecting lives, ensuring economic stability and securing lasting regional peace.
As part of precautionary measures, the Ministry advised Ghanaian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to and from the Middle East until further notice.
Ghanaians resident in Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates have been urged to remain indoors where possible, comply strictly with directives issued by local authorities and exercise heightened vigilance at all times.
The advisory further called on nationals in affected areas to avoid large gatherings and sensitive locations, closely monitor official communications, keep their travel documents readily accessible and maintain regular contact with the nearest Ghanaian diplomatic mission.
The Ministry disclosed that an emergency preparedness plan has been activated, with ongoing assessments regarding the possible evacuation of Ghanaian nationals if necessary.
It confirmed that the Government has initiated the evacuation of a number of staff of the Embassy of Ghana in Tehran, while retaining essential personnel to coordinate assistance to Ghanaians residing in the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The Ministry assured that Ghana’s diplomatic missions in the region remain operational and available to provide consular support.
