SuperSport viewers on DStv and GOtv can look forward to continental club action from the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup this weekend, with matches scheduled for Friday 11, Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 March 2022.
DStv and GOtv is the only true home of football in Africa, offering a range and depth of action that no other rival can match – it’s literally ‘Unbeatable Football’! If you’re going to spend your money on something, it may as well be on the best football in the world.
The action opens in the CAF Champions League on the evening of Friday 11 March, with Zamalek playing host to Wydad Casablanca in a huge North African derby which will be key to sorting matters in Group D.
The CAFCL action continues on Saturday 12 March, starting out with Mamelodi Sundowns hosting Al Ahly in a Group A match. The Brazilians are an outstanding team which is dominating domestically in South Africa, but they were very much moulded by current Ahly boss Pitso Mosimane, who will know just how to plot their downfall for this clash.
Saturday also features an all-Angolan clash from Group D, as Petro de Luanda play host to compatriot team Sagrada Esperanca, while the final live CAFCL broadcast on Your Channel of Champions sees AmaZulu head to North Africa to face ES Setif.
AmaZulu coach Benni McCarthy wants his team to claim six more points from their remaining three games, having guided Usuthu to victory at home over Setif last time out.
“It is tough when you go away from home,” McCarthy acknowledged. “But if we take the chances that we get it’s fairly easy [to win]. It’s not too difficult to play in Africa but when you are away, the travelling and conditions make it very difficult to play your usual game.”
Sunday 13 March brings a trio of games from the CAF Confederation Cup, starting off with Zambia’s Zanaco welcoming Libyan side Al Ahly Tripoli, while at the same time in Tanzania Simba SC will host RS Berkane of Morocco.
“We need to win our games,” said Zanaco boss Kelvin Kaindu. “That sets a foundation for the team to maybe get into the knockout stage. We can only work hard and see where we get to.”
The final live CAF club game being broadcast on Sunday sees Orlando Pirates of South Africa hosting neighbours Royal Leopards of Eswatini and targeting another home victory, having already overcome JS Saoura in Soweto, though visiting coach Edwin Matsebula is unfazed by the prospect of facing the Buccaneers.
“While in some way, the ranking reflects the strength of a team, it may not necessarily mean they are better than the team that has not been ranked. In football anything is possible as long as you work hard and believe in yourself,” Matsebula said.
No rival can compete with SuperSport’s coverage. Our viewers on DStv and GOtv enjoy an unrivalled selection of football from around the world!
