The Appiatse Reconstruction Implementation Team has commiserated with the citizens of the town who have been displaced in their tents as a result of heavy downpour over the weekend.

Government build tent for the residents as temporary home while it reconstructs the entire Appiatse township following a dynamite explosion that destroyed the town.

However, heavy rains accompanied by strong winds last weekend destroyed the tents rendering them homeless again.

In a statement to commiserate with the victims, the Appiatse Reconstructiion Implementation Committee led by its chairman, Benito Owusu-Bio, who is also the Deputy Minister for Lands and Natural Resources said “the people of Appiatse have demonstrated admirable resilience so far as we work with them to rebuild their township. The impact of the heavy downpour, however, is an additional challenge and we wish to encourage them to take heart.”

He noted that the Reconstruction Implementation Team anticipated that rainfall beginning in the March-April period will make remaining in tents untenable.

“That is why we have been working around the clock to provide temporary accommodation at Odumase since February.”

He disclosed that over 40 buildings owned by FGR are being refurbished and roofed, so they can resettle the victims of the explosion by 1st May, 2022 adding that funding has already been allocated for this work and it’s proceeding earnestly.

Meanwhile, working with NADMO, Mr Owusu-Bio indicated that immediate interventions like replacement of destroyed tents and provision of warmers have been organised urgently for the victims.

He said members of the Reconstruction Implementation Team and the Municipal Coordinating Council are on hand to receive specific concerns “and these will be addressed speedily as we have always done.”
