A security intelligence picked up by officers of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has led to the arrest of some expatriate foreigners allegedly caught selling military accoutrements at Achimota in Accra.

According to the report, they were illegally selling military uniforms, war bags, and mini bags among other military accoutrements.

It is an offence for foreigners or individuals to unlawfully possess these items under the laws of Ghana.

“This is an outright offence under the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD)177 of 1967, which in part states that “no person shall wear or use any military uniforms, equipment, or accoutrements or other material unless he or she is a member of the Armed Forces of Ghana,” the security officials emphasized.

Investigations have been launched to ascertain the faces behind that kind of business.

Meanwhile, all those workers at the scene of the base have been arrested awaiting identification, and as a bait leading to the real owners.

One of the security Chiefs whose name has been withheld for security reasons has vowed to make sure that these foreigners will face the full rigours of the law.

It would be recalled that GAF recently reiterated the continuous public education and warnings to the general public to desist from the unauthorised use of military uniforms.
