Ghana’s Golden Arms hosted and won the 2023 Africa Armwrestling Championship after sweeping the highest number of medals in the 2-day event in Accra.

The 12th Africa Armwrestling Championship was staged in Ghana’s capital, with powerhouses Egypt and Nigeria in attendance with 11 other nations.

Friday, June 23, 2023, was the opening day of the event at the GNAT Hall which is situated at Adabraka – a suburb of Accra and the hostilities were brought to a close on Saturday, June 24, 2023, in a grand style.

Ghana’s national team, the Golden Arms, made a strong statement on Day 1 as they led the medal table after claiming 71 medals in the 26 different categories the West Africans competed in.

Egypt, Ghana’s fiercest rivals in the sport on the continent, managed 17 medals while neighbours Nigeria placed 3rd with 143 points amounting to 7 gold medals, 5 silver, and 7 bronze medals.

However, the dynamics shifted on the final day with Ghana adding 61 more medals to the haul to complete the event as the highest-ranked side.

Meanwhile, Charles Osei Asibey, the President of the African Armwrestling Federation, was honoured by the World Armwrestling Federation for his immense contribution to the massive development and growth of the sport in Africa.
