Maurya Education Limited, the organizers of Universal Concept Mental Arithmetic (UCMAS) has successfully held the 12th edition of the national competition in Ghana.
UCMAS, aimed to empower children
between the ages of 5 to 14 with the invaluable skill of mental arithmetic, shaping young minds and cultivating crucial cognitive abilities.
The 2-day event, which was held on 24th and 25th June at the Pentecost Convention Centre in Kasoa saw over 2,000 pupils across the country battle it out with almost 4000 completing the various category with 300 pupils emerging as winners.
Speaking in an interview with the media, the Director of Maurya Education Limited, Mr Girish Gurbani said the UCMAS competition has proven its mandate over the years by improving pupils’ comprehension, speed, and accuracy.
“This is the 12th edition and a very existing one. This time around, our numbers have grown and we cannot contain them in the biggest hall in Ghana so the Pentecost Convention Center is our venue this year. Children all around Ghana have come to stay here and compete and be awarded.”
“Over 2000 children participated. In terms, of the number of competitions we have done almost 4000 competitions in two days because some children can participate in 2 competitions, and as you can see the awards are still going”, he explained.
He underscored that Maurya Education recognizes that mental arithmetic is not solely about acquiring numerical skills, but also about developing essential life skills.
By fostering a love for mathematics through mental calculation, children become more confident and proficient in handling numbers. Which boosts the children’s overall mathematical ability and makes learning mathematics an enjoyable and fulfilling experience.
Furthermore, he suggested that governments in Africa should consider inculcating UCMAS in basic schools, especially in the lower primary levels (class 1 to 5) which every child is to be a beneficiary.
He said this outfit has worked with the government of Ghana over the years, hence his outfit is committed to collaborating with the government to instill UCMAS in the public schools.
The Business Development Director for Maurya Education, Roger Ohemeng emphasized that Maurya Education is keen to build a solid foundation for children’s cognitive growth. Additionally, Ghana needs a generation of young children who are critical thinkers to develop the country.
Some parents and guidance thanked Maurya Education Limited for initiating this program to develop the brain of their youngsters.
