Hunger Project Ghana (THP) which seeks the wellbeing of epicenters to build sustainable community-based programs using the Epicenter Strategy has called on developing countries to work hard to attain food soverieingty by builiding food systems to feed their poulation.

Speaking at the launch of THP- Ghana New Vision and Mission, Country Director for Hunger Project Ghana, Samuel Erasmus Afrane said each country’s ability to achieve food soveriengty would promote greater food security globally.

According to him, though the population continue to rise and and situation of hunger and poverty is getting worse and alarming, the New Vision and Mission is to be focused to attain its goals of erradicating hunger and poverty in the epicenters.

He said, hunger and poverty increased more due to climate change, conflicts, global inequity and COVID-19 pandemic.

Throwing more light, the Mr Afrane revealed that, climate change globally is threatening the usual ways of cultivating in the field of agriculture, thus reducing the ability to feed increasing population in Topical Africa is very challenging.

“Climate change is a cruel reality for farmers and fishers in Africa, therefore there’s the need for more investment in climate adaptation”, he added.

Mr Afrane stated bodly that, the THP-Ghana has benefited over 350, 000 Ghanaians living in 542 rural communities and has trained over 2,500 volunteers to lead communities in the development of agriculture, women empowerment, education, health and nutrition, and livlihoods development as well as engagements with the Local Government.

He ellaborated that the THP-Ghana’s New Vision is to create ” A word without hunger” and New Mission to facilitate individual and collective action to transform systems of inequity that create hunger and cause it to persit.

The event was graced by representatives from Ministry of Food and Agriculture, Ministry of Health, Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), among others who reaffirmed their committment to the THP- Ghana New Vision and Mission.
