The Ghana First Coalition, a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting a reform agenda, good governance, and transparency, is calling on President Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo Addo, and the government to expedite the passage of the Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2022. This crucial legislation aims to amend and strengthen the existing asset declaration regime for public officers in Ghana.

The Ghana First Coalition firmly believes that an effective asset declaration system is essential. The bill will make public officials aware that corrupt practices by public officials will not be overlooked but will be punished. This bill will thus assist in the process of ensuring accountability among public officials. Recognizing that public trust is the bedrock of any successful democracy, it is imperative that our leaders demonstrate their commitment to ethical conduct and financial transparency.

The Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2022, presents an opportune moment for Ghana to enhance its fight against corruption and establish a more robust asset declaration regime. The proposed Bill will not only address existing loopholes but also introduce stricter reporting requirements and stronger penalties for non-compliance.

By accelerating the passage of this bill, Ghana will expand its capacity to monitor, investigate, and prosecute cases of corruption effectively. Moreover, it will serve as a powerful deterrent to public officials who may be tempted to engage in illicit practices, ultimately contributing to the overall safeguarding and integrity of our government and preserving the trust of our citizens.

The Ghana First Coalition, along with numerous civil society organizations and concerned citizens, strongly supports the Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2022. We urge all relevant stakeholders, including Members of Parliament, to prioritize this legislation and ensure its swift passage.

GFC is highly disappointed in both NPP and NDC governments’ commitment to fighting corruption and transparency in governance. Corruption in all forms is being institutionalized because of the high level of moral decadence in most forms of leadership in Ghanaian society.
Now, we implore H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo and his government and our 275 MPS to seize this critical opportunity and lead the charge in enacting the Conduct of Public Officers Bill, 2022, without delay.

The Ghana First Coalition stands ready to support and collaborate with the government and other stakeholders in promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in Ghana. Together, let us work towards building a prosperous nation rooted in integrity and public trust.

The Ghana First Coalition is a non-partisan organization dedicated to promoting good governance, transparency, and accountability in Ghana. Comprised of citizens, civil society organizations, and concerned individuals, the coalition works towards building a prosperous nation that places the interests of Ghanaians first.
