Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin, has administered the oath of office to Mr Kwabena Boateng, the newly elected Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ejisu constituency in the Ashanti Region, after the untimely demise of the late John Kumah.

After the administration of the oath of office and secrecy on Friday, May 17, the speaker congratulated Mr Boateng for being victorious in his election and told the house that “he is now honourable Kwabena Boateng”, adding that, “Honourable member, you are welcome to the house, and I will give you your tools, which you have to hold jealously tight.”

Mr Boateng, the newly sworn-in MP for Ejisu constituency, stood on the ticket of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and emerged victorious in the recently held by-election.

He secured 27,782 votes, which accounted for 55.8% of the total ballots cast.

His closest contender and a former MP for the area, Mr Kwabena Owusu Aduomi, who abandoned his mother party, NPP and went into the elections as an independent candidate, received 21,534 votes, representing 43.3% of the vote share.

The by-election was necessitated by the unfortunate passing of the former MP, Mr. John Kumah.
